Semarang, October 21, 2025 — The Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University (FSM UNDIP) held a scientific oration themed “The Role of Science in Industry and Defense” at the Acintya Prasada Building, 6th Floor, on Tuesday (10/21). The event featured two speakers from different fields—materials physics and digital forensics—who discussed science’s contribution to industrial needs as well as the strengthening of security and governance.

In his opening remarks, FSM UNDIP Dean Prof. Dr. Kusworo Adi, S.Si., M.T. emphasized the faculty’s consistent achievements and commitment to continuous quality improvement. “FSM UNDIP has become the best faculty at Diponegoro University, as evidenced by various accomplishments that surpass other faculties. With a commitment to producing high-quality graduates who contribute to society, we have recorded many achievements in science and mathematics. However, we must not stop here. We must continue to innovate, improve the quality of education, and produce research that benefits society. Let us make this Anniversary a momentum to strengthen our commitment to the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridarma) and to increase FSM’s contribution to the nation and the state. Our tagline: moving together—FSM that is dignified and impactful,” he said.

The first oration was delivered by Prof. Dr. Agus Subagio, S.Si., M.Si. (Professor of Materials Physics, FSM UNDIP). He discussed the importance of bridging basic research to downstreaming through campus–industry–government collaboration so that research outputs lead to products, patents, and ready-to-use technologies. Strengthening laboratory capacity, technology readiness, and partnerships is deemed crucial to drive the application of advanced materials on production lines, in energy and manufacturing, and for strategic defense needs.

The second speaker, Muh. Abdur Rohman, S.Kom., M.Cybersec., CFE., CHFI (Technical Coordinator of the Digital Forensics Laboratory at the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia/BPK RI and Executive Director of the Indonesian Association of Forensic Auditors/AAFI), highlighted the shift in auditing toward large-scale data analytics and digital evidence. He explained how trends in mobile, cloud, crypto, and AI demand digital forensics competencies to extract and verify electronic evidence in a forensically sound manner. The proper use of analytical tools is said to improve accuracy, speed up examinations, and strengthen accountability in both the public and corporate sectors, with ethics, collaboration, and cross-disciplinary expertise as key prerequisites.

At the close of the event, Prof. Dr. Drs. Muhammad Nur, DEA (Physics lecturer at FSM UNDIP) presented two books to the Dean of FSM. The titles were “Bangkitkan Desa: Saatnya Pemuda Memimpin Perubahan Ekonomi Berbasis Inovasi” and “Membangun Inovasi Pasca Pandemi Covid-19: Panduan bagi Dosen, Ilmuwan Inovator, dan Mahasiswa.” Through this scientific oration, FSM UNDIP reaffirmed its support for accelerating innovation and science-based governance. The series of orations formed part of the 37th Anniversary of FSM UNDIP and served as an invitation to expand collaboration and strengthen real impact for society.
